Collagen and Skin-Repair Peptide Research: The Dermal Frontier
By the APL Research Team ยท Updated
Skin is the most accessible organ for research and the most commercially watched โ which makes dermal peptide science one of the busiest intersections of biology and industry.
The matrix game
Skin's structure is extracellular matrix: collagen for tensile strength, elastin for recoil, glycosaminoglycans for hydration. Ageing is largely matrix degradation โ metalloproteinase enzymes outpacing synthesis. Peptide research here targets both sides of that balance.
The compounds
GHK-Cu dominates the literature: fibroblast studies associate it with collagen synthesis and MMP modulation (our full GHK-Cu guide covers the copper chemistry). Signal peptides and carrier peptides fill out the field, and KPV-class anti-inflammatory sequences appear in barrier-function work.
In-vitro models
Fibroblast monolayers for synthesis assays, reconstructed epidermis for penetration work, and scratch-wound assays for migration โ dermal research is unusually in-vitro friendly, which is why it is often the first field new peptide researchers enter.
