GHK-Cu Research Guide: The Blue Copper Peptide
By the APL Research Team ยท Updated
GHK-Cu is instantly recognisable โ the only research peptide that is naturally blue. The colour comes from its copper(II) complex, and the chemistry behind it drives one of the most active corners of cosmetic-science research.
The molecule
GHK is a tripeptide (glycyl-histidyl-lysine) that occurs naturally in human plasma and binds copper with high affinity. Plasma GHK levels decline sharply with age, which is precisely what made the molecule interesting to researchers studying skin ageing.
The research record
Published in-vitro work associates GHK-Cu with collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis in fibroblast cultures, along with modulation of metalloproteinases โ the enzymes that remodel skin's structural matrix. It is a fixture in dermal, hair-follicle and wound-model literature.
Practical notes
The copper complex is robust, but keep solutions away from strong chelators and reducing agents which strip the copper and the blue colour with it โ a visibly faded solution is chemistry telling you something changed. Store lyophilised at -20ยฐC.
Sourcing
We stock GHK-Cu in 50mg and 100mg vials โ the genuine blue complex, HPLC-verified with batch documentation available on request, express from Australia.
If you run a peptide business, or are building one, we wholesale Australian-sourced stock to trade buyers across Australia.
All compounds discussed are for in-vitro laboratory research only and are not for human or veterinary use.
