Semax and Selank in Attention and Cognition Research: What the Published Literature Shows

By the APL Research Team · Updated

Few research peptides carry as much published history as Semax and Selank — and few are as widely misunderstood. Developed by Russian institutes and studied there for decades, both compounds sit at the centre of attention- and cognition-research literature that most English-speaking researchers have never read. This article summarises what that literature reports — as research findings, not as any guidance for use.

Semax: the attention-research record

Semax — an ACTH(4-10) fragment stabilised with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail — holds regulatory approval in Russia, where its clinical literature includes studies in cognitive and attention-related contexts, including published Russian work examining attention-deficit presentations in clinical populations. Mechanistically, the research record associates Semax with BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) modulation and dopaminergic and serotonergic system interactions in animal models — the same neurochemical territory that attention research broadly concerns itself with.

Selank: the anxiety-and-attention adjacent literature

Selank, a tuftsin analogue from the same research lineage, has a published profile centred on anxiety models, with GABAergic-system interaction the recurring mechanism in the literature. Because attention and anxiety circuits overlap substantially in neuroscience, Selank frequently appears alongside Semax in cognition-research programs — the two are studied as complementary probes of different inhibitory and excitatory systems.

Reading this literature critically

Two honest caveats define this field. First, much of the primary research is Russian-language, from a small number of institutes, with limited independent Western replication — which makes replication studies genuinely valuable science. Second, none of this literature establishes therapeutic claims outside the jurisdictions and contexts studied: these compounds are supplied internationally as research reagents only, and nothing here is medical advice or a suggestion that they treat any condition. Anyone with questions about ADHD or any health condition should speak to a doctor — that is not what research peptides are for.

For the bench

Both peptides are short, robust sequences: standard lyophilised handling, -20°C storage, bacteriostatic-water reconstitution at 2-8°C. We stock Semax and Selank in 5mg and 10mg vials in our cognitive research category, HPLC-verified ≥99% with batch documentation available on request, express from Australian stock.

Sourcing for a peptide business rather than a single bench? Our wholesale program supplies trade buyers Australia-wide from Australian-sourced, Australian-tested stock.
