Semax and Selank: The Russian Nootropic Peptides
By the APL Research Team ยท Updated
Russian institutes produced a distinctive peptide lineage largely unknown in Western pharmacopoeias but heavily studied in Eastern literature. Semax and Selank are its best-known members, and both have crossed into international research catalogues.
Semax
A synthetic fragment of ACTH (4-10) with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail for stability, Semax appears in published models associated with BDNF modulation and neuroprotection endpoints. It holds regulatory approval in Russia, giving it a body of clinical-use literature unusual for a research peptide.
Selank
A tuftsin analogue (also PGP-stabilised), Selank's research record centres on anxiety models and immune-signalling markers โ GABAergic-system interaction is the recurring theme in its mechanism literature.
Research context
Both compounds offer Western researchers something valuable: extensively studied molecules whose primary literature sits outside the usual databases โ replication and translation studies are an open field. Standard lyophilised handling for both.
